The best models to start with are 40 sized trainer aircraft such as the Seagull Arising Star, Ripmax Trainer or Thunder Tiger Trainer. These are almost ready to fly which means there is only a small amount of work to do to get them in the air. A plane like these will cost about £50.
The engine needs to be a suitable size for the plane. A reasonable 40 size 2-stroke engine will cost about £40. The Chinese engines are very good for the money but avoid the Russian engines.
The choice of radio is up to you. It is best to start with a 6 channel computer radio such as the Futaba 6EXA. This includes the reciever and servos for around £120. It is advisable to buy a second transmitter and a buddy lead. Please note we fly on mode 1 and cannot teach on mode 2. Please see the frequency chart for help selecting a 35mhz frequency.
We have a number of club instructors who will teach free of charge.
